What is CUT THE CANCER?

An exhilarating and innovative course given to cancer patients and their care givers designed to help them in their fight with cancer.

The purpose of this course is to give the student the physical and mental skills necessary to utilize the tenets of Budo (martial way) in their fight with cancer. We will do this through the study of the physical and philosophical aspects of Aikido.

Our Mission Statement:

To strengthen and transform oneself, creating breakthroughs of physical and mental barriers, allowing acceptance of the challenge of conquering cancer. This provides the hope and fortitude necessary to turn the physical experience into a preventative way of life.

Why Study a Martial Art?

“Why study the martial arts? A true martial artist does not train to only defeat others. He trains also to defeat the enemies inside himself, the enemies we all have. He trains to forge his life into something beautiful, something helpful to the world. He wishes not to draw a sword, but to put it away-once and for all.
He can do this because through his training, peace is not just a word or an idea to him. Strength, bravery, compassion: these are not just words to him. They are things he has embodied. They are what he has become”.

Fumio Toyoda Shihan
Founder Aikido Association of America

What is Aikido?

A non-combative Japanese martial art that teaches one to restore harmony in conflictive issues through the study of Budo (martial way).

The word Aikido means "the way of harmonizing energy".

How does the program work?

The program is a study of Aikido principles designed to foster the coordination of physical and mental strength. This can be taught in a series of 4 hour workshops, an 8 week session format, or in an on-going class format. Each class will involve stretching/strengthening exercises, bokken (wooden sword) practice, and Zen meditation.

Why practice with the Bokken (wooden sword)?

“The sword that takes life can be the sword that gives life. Through our training we cut ourselves and our fear, which is to say that we see ourselves for what we truly are. Then we can wield the great sword, our existence, our life, correctly”.

Fumio Toyoda Shihan

Who can take the classes?

Anybody that has been given approval by their doctor for physical exercise.

We also recommend that the care giver of the patient be involved as well.
